What we’re up to – Newsletters

Click to download (or enlarge) examples of our newsletters. We send these out each half-term to provide parents and carers with information about what’s going on at nursery, along with reminders and updates on policy etc.


Autumn Term 2

This Term we look at all the important festivals and traditions that occur along the way. With Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night, Advent and Christmas there is lots for the children to find out about.

Alongside our different topics we watch as the world around us changes outside, our flowers and bushes lose their flowers, but at the same time our leaves turn gorgeous shades of orange, gold and brown. We will explore in our woods, collecting leaves and making collages with them. We will pull on our wellies and coats and spend time outside enjoying these changes.

We will be learning about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies. Firework and bonfire night, and the dangers of fireworks, we will create colourful pictures that represent the fireworks.

Christmas and what it means, we will be doing lots of Christmas crafts and activities, this includes making Christmas tree decorations for our own tree which will be displayed at Paignton Parish Church during their Christmas Tree Festival. The children will get the chance to visit the church and help to decorate the tree with their own art work.

The children will also learn Christmas songs, which they will then perform at our Christmas Bazaar for all the parents and grandparents to come and watch.

We will also be developing our writing skills and as always, assessing the three prime areas of learning, plus the other specific areas, focusing on different early learning goals.

Spring Term 1- part 1

Running from after Christmas to February half term; Healthy eating, health and self-care.

We will be learning about what is healthy and what isn’t. We will be looking at why we wash our hands and how to do it properly. We will also look at why it is important to brush our teeth and why we have to visit the dentist. We will also be exploring what doctors, dentist, opticians and other professionals do to keep us healthy and how they help us. We will also be, assessing the three prime areas of learning, plus the other specific areas, focusing on different early learning goals.

Spring Term 1- Part 2

We will be looking at two of the children’s favourite things, Space and Dinosaurs!

We will be learning all about space and our planet and other planets in our solar system. We will also be looking at all the different types of dinosaurs and fossils. We will be doing lots of craft this half term: we will be making dinosaur foot prints, our own dinosaurs and planets and much more. Throughout the term we’ll be assessing the three prime areas of learning, plus the other specific areas, focusing on different early learning goals.

Spring Term 2

Running from February half term to the Easter Holidays: Life cycles , growth, planting seeds & changing colours of spring.

Other things we will be looking at-Pancake Day, Mothering Sunday, Easter & World Book Day.

We will be learning all about life cycles and the animals we see in spring. We will also be planting flowers and vegetables in our award winning garden, and watching them grow over the next few months.

This term we will be doing lots of crafts and learning more about Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day), Mothering Sunday and Easter, all the time concentrating on assessing the three prime areas of learning, plus the other specific areas, focusing on different early learning goals.

Summer Term 1

Running from Easter holidays to the May/ June half term: Red Riding Hood, Elves & the Shoemaker, Hansel & Gretel. St Georges Day & Ramadan.

Learning about the Summer & the importance of sun hats, sun cream & drinking plenty. Looking at people & communities around us, focusing on heritage and British values. Assessing the three prime areas of learning, plus the other specific areas, focusing on different early learning goals.

Summer Term 2: Learning all about Summer

Running from May/ June Holidays to the Summer Holidays: Learning about the seaside and the areas in which we live.

Looking at holidays & places further away from us, culture & tradition. We will be taking trips to the beach, making our own ice lollies and much more. We will also be Assessing the three prime areas of learning, plus the other specific areas, focusing on different early learning goals.
